Detail, coloured, of a last minute illustration I provided to accompany a text story in the forthcoming issue of Dogbreath. The full illustration features also Harvey, and will, of course, be printed in black & white.
It is really good work and the colouring/textures is great - I agree about the Ezquerra parallel (especially in the shoulder pad) and he is The Master ;)
However, I might suggest you calm the boobage down a little. Its not in the league of say Power Girl and her beachball smuggling but the "will you look at the size of them?" reaction rather takes the focus on all the rest of the great work ;) It might just the the hard upper boob curve that draws the eye to it, as they don't exists in nature and only this side of unnaturally large implants (like Lolo Ferrari).
Fair dos! The pose was actually based on a photo of the rather well endowed Christina Hendricks (Miss Holloway from Mad Men), even though facially she ended up looking like a cross between Famke Janssen and Uma Thurman. But I take your point (hangs head in shame. again)!
If they were any higher then they'd be round her ears!! You've managed to lower them slightly which looks better.
It sounds like she has either had work done or the dress/bra is giving that impression and I was interested to read one plastic surgeon's analysis that highlights the feature I picked up on (always encouraging to have a professional support my analysis of the old lady dumplings):
-- I believe she may have enhanced her breasts given that she has a few characteristics of someone with implants–for example, when she wears a dress with a push-up bra or bustier in it, there is a distinct border between the breast and the chest wall– that delineation, or “shelf”-like appearance generally occurs in women with implants that are being displaced upwards against gravity. The prosthetic makes this border sharper in women who have undergone breast augmentation. --
Very nice colouring - lt's a shame it will only be in B&W when printed! I think she looks cute and I'm not sure the boobs are a problem - I'd just consider shortening both the lines that define the connection of the top part of the breast with the chest/decolletage area...
Why thank you sir. Good advice from all corners. Bolt has asked me if he can use the coloured version to 'pimp' the new issue, so it might get seen after all!
Nice, the colours and textures give it quite a Carlos feeling.
ReplyDeleteWow! An Ezquerra comparison! My first. I hadn't thought of that actually but I can see it now. Thanks James!

ReplyDeleteGood call on the reference material and some of her photos show some very odd breast action going on:

However, I suspect she just needs a better fitted bra.
Anyway, just one of my niggles - my breast noir perhaps ;)

ReplyDeleteGood news - it deserves a wider audience.
