This is for a new illustration I'm doing based on a story by a certain Mr H.P. Lovecraft. I've got a strip in the pieline for the near future, which will be based on a different story of his - but I wanted to get in to 'Lovecraft Country' with this first. I'll post the other stages as they're done.
And the inked version.
Then a quick colour test.
Very nice Matt, I like the pencils on the boarded up windows.
ReplyDeleteWhich house - a witch house? Or is there a mad viol player in the top room? Or are there rats in the walls? Or a haunter in the dark? Gah!
ReplyDeleteThat's very nice indeed - is it based on research into actual houses or plucked throbbing from your mind's eye?
ReplyDeleteEmps, that's very New England-ish, with the gables, the "tower" and the attic room. Heck, a trip that way will reveal these houses by the dozen (not to mention Hawthorne's slightly famous one) Matt did a great job capturing the atmosphere of a gloomy autumn night...
ReplyDeleteHey fellas, thanks for the feedback. Yes, I used a photo for reference, but tried to make it more ramshackle in appearance to ramp up the dilapidated horror feel. Think I got lucky though - had no idea it was the genuine New England article!
ReplyDeleteSome gorgeous tones you've brought into the coloured version there, Matt. Loving the overall style too.
