Arthur & Merlin

It's my turn over at Fractal Friction again this friday. Here are a couple of small panels from page 37.

It's nearly Friday folks

And you know what that means - yep, time for another slice of Fractal Friction.

Artwork for this page was provided by that erstwhile gentleman James Corcoran who sadly now  is on an FF hiatus until November, but we'll be keeping his seat warm and look forward to his return.

I've coloured this page, and in record time (for me), so it might look like something of a departure, but anyway I'm quite pleased with the results.

Make sure you check in with the FF blog tomorrow to get your weekly fix.

James' blog, if you haven't see it already is here: http://james-corcoran.blogspot.com/

And Fractal Friction is here: http://fractalfriction.blogspot.com/

But you knew that already, right?

Chinese vampire master

Warming up for my next Fractal Friction page, due a week today. I've thumbnailed it and have been sketching some of these guys, the Jiang Shi, who are currently kicking seven shades of shit out of our motley bunch of heroes. This one was based on a great photo of an old chinese man (supplied by Conor Boyle), must have been at least 112.

Kevlev and mygrimmbrother present...

My good friend the very talented and horribly nice Kev Levell recently posted a fantastic 15 minute dredd head on the 2000AD forum and over at his blog here and it was so good I couldn't resist inking and colouring it. I really think he's nailed Dredd in this one, and can't wait for his upcoming Dredd strip in (the next issue of?) Zarjaz.

Then also there's this, his fantastic rendering of Merlin for Fractal Friction. Originally intended for page 21, the panel was cut in the end in favour of a different view that incorporated Mrs Wordsworth as well. Again, it was such a cracking drawing that I had to ink it up.

Here's a sneak preview of page 24 in our ongoing webcomic - due to hit your screens tomorrow! Don't forget to check it out at fractal friction

And again...

A slightly more interesting pose, and an even redder nose.

The Arch Wizard

This rather well known figure from British mythology has just made his first appearance over at http://fractalfriction.blogspot.com/ as you've never seen before. He was designed by Kev Levell, and what a wonderful design it is too. This is my take on him, with a heavy debt to one of Kev's unused sketches. I'm preparing for my next page, and have a couple more sketches to post in the next couple of days. Check out Kev's fantastic blog here: http://kevlev.blogspot.com/

Fractal Friction page 20

The latest page is up here: http://fractalfriction.blogspot.com/2010/05/page-20.html
featuring some ace lineart from the legendary Bolt-01, coloured by myself and lettered by the amiable Jim Campbell. I stumbled across this while taking out various layers to see how the page looked, and rather liked it, so I thought I'd throw it up here as a curiosity.

Fractal Friction page 18 inks

Here are the inks for my latest Fractal Friction page. Wasn't entirely happy with my colouring, and if I get the chance I may have another crack at it. The main spalsh panel was inked entirely digitally, which is a first for me. The other panels (bar #3) I inked with pens and dropped in in Photoshop. It was a helluva challenge fitting everything in, and I think some elements suffer from looking 'shrunk' (probably becasue they are), but it's all a learning curve, right?

Jamie

It's my turn over at Fractal Friction with page 17 due up on Friday (provided I can visualise the increasingly random and frightening contents of the Emperor's head). Here's a quick sketch of our humble protagonist.

Fractal Friction page one art

Finished art (with letters by the delectable Jim Campbell) for page one of FF. This is a new collaboration I'm really glad to be part of, and also features the talents of Emperor (on script duties), Kev Levell, James Corcoran, Conor Boyle & Chris Askham (sharing the scribbles). Read the full, ongoing strip at thie address: http://fractalfriction.blogspot.com (tried making this a link but blogger ain't having it).

Pages 2 & 3 are up now, with 4 & 5 imminent - then it's back to me for the start of another round before we open it up to a few very interesting guest artists from page 11 onwards.
