An evening in the company of Universal & Hammer horror

Managed to snatch a couple of hours last night to do some sketching, here's the results. From the top: Boris Karloff of course, in the 1932 version of The Mummy; Myrna Loy as Fah Lo See in The Mask of Fu Manchu (also 1932 - god, that was a good year wasn't it?); and the one and only Peter Cushing as Dr John Rollason in Hammer's 1957 production of The Abominable Snowman. Hoping to ink these up too at some point soon.

Warm-up - inked portraits

Had a good month of colouring and now I want to get back to some actual drawing, lest my faculties wither and drop off. Inked up a few more recent 10 minute portraits to loosen up before carrying on with a couple of commissions.

These ones are Dashiell Hammett, Harpo Marx, Joe Strummer, Michael K Williams, Alan Turing & Sissy Spacek.

All for sale as usual (apart from Joe - he's promised to someone already), A4 on nice cartridge paper and priced £12.50 plus postage.

New 'Game of Thrones' portraits

Midway through the second season of HBO's superlative fantasy drama and the show just keeps going from strength to strength. This is due in no small part to the quality of the child actors involved - as absent fathers and elder siblings march their armies back and forth across Westeros, the younger lords and ladies are increasingly left to rule and/or fend for themselves, and both Arya (Maisie Williams) and Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) in particular make the show worth watching. Just check out episode 5 of season 2, in which the diminutive Maisie stares down a malevolent Charles Dance - just incredible.

These were a few 10 minute portraits that I inked up quickly just for practice. The tones were added in PS even more quickly, but I quite like the sketchiness of them.

Last ones before bed

The most eclectic foursome yet: Sitting Bull, Chan Marshall, Napoleon Bonaparte & Erwin Rommel.

More late night portraits

This time we've got Aleister Crowley, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Georges Prosper Remi (AKA Herge) and James George Frazer

10 minute portraits - unknown subjects

These are the first six 10 minute portraits I did, back in November. No idea who any of these people are, so in the end I decided not to use them for that blog (although I still think they're not bad drawings). If you recognise anyone please leave a comment!
