WWI Biplane vs Chinese dragon

As well as cracking on with the illos for Starscape, I sketched and inked this today as a warm up, then decided to throw some colour at it.

The idea came from a dream I had ages ago - although the dream was a lot more serene and involved a single biplane chasing a distant creature through the clouds that looked an awful lot like the Luck Dragon from the Neverending Story. Decided to ramp up the violence for this pic though!

Not finished yet - will probably tinker with the colour through the week.

  1. Nice it looks like you have put to good use what you learned inking the smoke in the previous post on the inking bits of Frazer Irving going on there

  2. Love this. But alas! Your stuff isn't appearing on my updates thingy so I've missed out on about five of your posts! Thought you'd been unusually quiet.... Glad to be mistaken :)

  4. The dragon, in particular, is superb - the drawing is clearly mighty fine but the colouring also really helps make it shine.

Also I had noticed the updates problem - might be worth a note to Blogspot (although if you can turn them off and on again from your control panel that might enough to kickstart them again - even if it sounds like a typical IT support line brush-off ;) )

  6. It's like Reign of Fire meets the Blu Max. Looks great. There's a whole comics worth of story in that pic alone.

  7. Thanks guys. I think this scene might end up working its way into Fractal Friction actually. That wasn't originally intended, but it's suggested some interesting ideas...
